John Aglialoro, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a graduate of Temple University. He is an entrepreneur who has owned and operated a variety of businesses as Chairman and co-founder of UM Holdings Ltd. of Haddonfield, New Jersey. Since the company’s beginning in 1973, UM has owned and operated over 40 business entities through start-up or acquisition in a variety of industries.
Mr. Aglialoro served as Chairman of CYBEX International, a full-line manufacturer of commercial exercise equipment which was sold in 2016 to Brunswick Corporation (BC:NYSC). He was also Chairman of EHE International, the nation’s oldest and largest provider of physical exams which was sold also in 2016 to Summit Partners, an equity investor in multiple health service businesses.
Owner of the movie rights to Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, Mr. Aglialoro formed Atlas Productions Ltd., to produce the movie trilogy of Rand’s best-selling novel. He chaired Atlas Distribution Company, provider of unique theatrical distribution software, which was sold in 2023 in a management buy-out.
He is on the Board of Trustees of The Barnes Foundation Art Institute, the Museum of the American Revolution and The Atlas Society, an objectivist think-tank. He is a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Club and the Chevaliers du Tastevin.
Mr. Aglialoro resides in Philadelphia with his wife and business partner, Joan Carter.
Joan Carter is co-founder and President of UM Holdings Ltd., a private company that began in 1973 as a heart clinic providing stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation. In 1981 the company went public as United Medical Corporation with a name change to UM Holdings Ltd. when it returned to private ownership in 1993.
Ms. Carter is a former Director of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, CarrAmerica (NYSE:RE) and is former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. She is past President of the Union League of Philadelphia, the first woman President in the League’s 150 year history. She is Founding Chair of the Legacy Foundation of the Union League, a non-profit entity that promotes American values as defined in the Constitution.
She is the Chairman of FreedomWorks Foundation, a grass roots organization dedicated to individual liberty and free markets, and is a member of the Chevalier des Tastevin, the Pennsylvania Women’s Forum, and Women Corporate Directors.
Ms. Carter received the prestigious 2011 Musser Leadership Award from Temple University, the 2012 Adam Smith Award from Economics Pennsylvania and holds the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Wooster. A frequent speaker on issues of women and business, she resides in Philadelphia with her husband and business partner, John Aglialoro.
Arthur Hicks began his career as a Certified Public Accountant with an international accounting firm. He graduated with Honors from La Salle University and received his MBA from Rutgers University with Honors.
He joined UM Holdings Ltd. in 1983 as Controller and since that time has been involved with the financial management of over twenty five UM businesses in a variety of capacities, including Chief Financial Officer since 1988. He has managed over thirty mergers and acquisitions has participated in several public equity offerings and financing transactions totaling over $1 billion in transaction value in a wide range of structures.
Mr. Hicks served as Chief Executive Officer of Cybex International from 2013-2016 when Cybex was sold to Brunswick Corporation (BC:NYSE). He was also a member of the Board of Directors of EHE International and spearheaded its sale to Summit Partners. Mr. Hicks was named as one of the top 50 graduates of Rutgers University-Camden in 2000, as part of Rutgers’ 50th Anniversary celebration. He is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of CPAs, the Financial Executives Institute and The Chevaliers du Tastevin.
